WTF QR Codes

I find it a personal pet peeve when people try and use the new “it”  thing and completely play it out. If something is up and coming.. research people! Learn how it’s used. Study best practices. Sure, testing is involved but use your head people.

The latest thing to be using on Billboards and Ads over the past year are QR Codes. I’m sure you’ve seen them before. Little square barcodes you scan with your smartphones. When used properly they take you to a Landing Page or Website.

When not used properly.. Well, you can see below. Check out the full list after the jump.

No Boys Allowed!

London bus stops have been to getting a facelift with new “Facial-recognition” ads…

(Are you scratching your head?)

Plan UK has come up with this amazing strategy for their “Because I’m a Girl” campaign. These ads will show girls a 40 second ad. While men, will only see a URL.

One of their reps say, ““We’re not giving men the choice to see the full ad so they get a glimpse of what it’s like to have basic choices taken away.”

Pretty unique. Pretty awesome.

Congratulations to Pinterest!

Is it a social media site? Is it a pinboard? Is it an online database of everything awesome? Yes to all!

Pinterest, the worlds latest addiction on the interwebs has reached 10M Monthly Unique visitors! What an accomplishment. Hitting this milestone means the only sites that have more visitors and that people spend more time on is Facebook and Tumblr. Wowza!

comScore states, that the average Pinterest user spends at least 98 minutes each month on their site. That is right below Tumblrs 2.5 hours and 7 hours on Facebook (yikes, guilty). They also noted that Pinterest was the fastest independent site to hit 10 million monthly uniques in the U.S.!

Now that’s something to celebrate.

Congrats and happy pinning! (Going to kick myself into getting back into sharing some amazing things I find on there… stay tuned!) and while you’re at it.. follow me!

Social Media explained with Donuts

When trying to explain the large list of social media sites one can be a part of it can be a bit overwhelming.

Breaking it down nice and simply with the use of donuts.

It just makes…sense.

Unique and Adorable iPhone Cases

Ever since kicking my Droid to the curb and finally meeting the love of my life – my iPhone. I have been facinated by the MILLION of sites that house cases and accessories for the phone. I’ve come to the realization it is much cheaper to decorate my phone, rather than myself (this is what I keep telling myself, just go with it) So why not have fun with it?

As with many other occasions I often turn to Etsy. I’m sure most of you are familiar with the Online Marketplace but for those of you that aren’t – Etsy is a website that has hundreds of online boutiques. Handmade items, artwork, vintage shops. You can find anything on there. It’s much more fulfilling buying from someone on there then going to a mainstream shop and spending your money on factory made items!

Enter NapPage these ladies from Bankok make some kick-ass iPhone cases with the art of decoupaging.

de·cou·page

noun: The decoration of the surface of an object with paper cut-outs.

In this case, paper napkins. (Napkins..decoupage..NapPage..get it?)

So many unique styles and choices and reasonably priced! Check them out if your iPhone is looking a little.. naked.

iPhone 4s Battery Tips

Happy Friday Everyone!

Were you one of the 4 MILLION that purchased the new iPhone 4s? If not, and you updated to the iOS5 you may be wondering why your battery is not as up to par as it once was. Apple made a statement today that their iOS5 has a bug that is, indeed draining the battery – down to 12 hours. They will be making an update to the software in the next few weeks to resolve this.

Coming from a Droid Incredible, this isn’t a bad thing. That thing died in a matter of hours. However, the Huffington Post created a list of tips to save yourself some unneeded battery suckage. 🙂

I’ve done them, and have already seen results – enjoy!

**Note – this will help older models of the iPhone as well**

Welcome to the Future

You know its a new era when a baby thinks a magazine is a broken iPad.

Watch as an adorable one-year old is trying to flip through a magazine like they’re used to doing with a simple swipe of their little fingers.

Too funny!

Brad Paisley says it best. Welcome to the Future.

Did Case-Mate spill the beans?

If you blinked you would have missed this but earlier today Case-Mate breifly had a lovely drop down area of their new Barely There Brushed Alumnium iphone5 cases. Could it be that the gurus of Apple were misleading us when we found out it was unlikely that the new generation of iPhone would have the tapered corners and thinner and lighter design?

We will have to wait and see… Case-Mate is a very popular iPhone (and all things Apple) case retailer so I wouldn’t just take this with a grain of salt.

C’mon October!

99 problems

This one goes out to all my coders, hackers, developers, designers – haters and lovers. After working nonstop on a major issue (yes, we know I have issues) yesterday I came across this photo.

It immediately made me not hate my life so much.

Hilarious.

Happy Friday 🙂

I got 99 Problems
Even if you don’t know a thing about code, how can you not crack a smile at this one?
