WTF QR Codes

I find it a personal pet peeve when people try and use the new “it”  thing and completely play it out. If something is up and coming.. research people! Learn how it’s used. Study best practices. Sure, testing is involved but use your head people.

The latest thing to be using on Billboards and Ads over the past year are QR Codes. I’m sure you’ve seen them before. Little square barcodes you scan with your smartphones. When used properly they take you to a Landing Page or Website.

When not used properly.. Well, you can see below. Check out the full list after the jump.

WTF QR CODES.

Congratulations to Pinterest!

Is it a social media site? Is it a pinboard? Is it an online database of everything awesome? Yes to all!

Pinterest, the worlds latest addiction on the interwebs has reached 10M Monthly Unique visitors! What an accomplishment. Hitting this milestone means the only sites that have more visitors and that people spend more time on is Facebook and Tumblr. Wowza!

comScore states, that the average Pinterest user spends at least 98 minutes each month on their site. That is right below Tumblrs 2.5 hours and 7 hours on Facebook (yikes, guilty). They also noted that Pinterest was the fastest independent site to hit 10 million monthly uniques in the U.S.!

Now that’s something to celebrate.

Congrats and happy pinning! (Going to kick myself into getting back into sharing some amazing things I find on there… stay tuned!) and while you’re at it.. follow me!

Social Media explained with Donuts

When trying to explain the large list of social media sites one can be a part of it can be a bit overwhelming.

Breaking it down nice and simply with the use of donuts.

It just makes…sense.

Smartphone etiquette for a Dinner Date [infographic]

We all have the bad habit of having our phones out during dinner. I do it and I know my boyfriend does it. Not of course if we’re at a nice restaurant but I know he and I both reach for our smartphones the second it chirps.

Sure, we aren’t going on first dates anymore but this still holds true. Take your time to enjoy the company of one another. Thanks Holy Kaw for a great infographic! 🙂

ChapStick is lacking in “fans” for this one!

We’ve all seen the print ads. The shock value, can-they-really-do-that ads. Personally, this one is very low on the “shock value” totum poll of advertisements if you ask me. I’ve seen a lot worse in an Abercrombie & Fitch storefront. ANYWAY I digress, Chapstick released the following picture on their site as well as their Facebook page.

The readers digest version: Blogger talks about how upset she is over this, goes to the Facebook page to complain. ChapStick then starts deleting comment after comment (instead of just deleting the damn picture, wouldn’t that have saved a lot of trouble?) People are livid and the rest is history. They “apologized” and I use that term loosely.

Personally, they should have quit while they were ahead. Now they just have a heck of a lot of angry people. And a lot of people like me, blogging about it. Some may not even dig around in old purses now to find that last big of Cherry Flavor Balm. Way to go guys. (Don’t worry I’m not that bent out of shape enough for that fiasco)

Check out AdFreaks take on it here.

What do we think all? Is this too much for a Lip Balm ad? Or is this my life on a daily basis (no judgement).

This week on Pinterest!

So if you haven’t already heard of the phenomenon that is Pinterest you are really missing out! Pinterest is yet another addictive Social Media(like) site where you can virtually create pin boards of all your favorite things. For example: Wedding ideas, Recipes, Xmas list, FOOD – the possibilities are endless. Since I spend so much time on the site I decided to start coming up with a list of my favorite pins of the week. What’s good about this site is you can link to an external website which is where the directions and or recipe is. Give it a try!

Here is what put a fire in my belly this week on Pinterest: ps follow me 🙂

[Infographic] The History of Twitter

Happy Monday everyone!

As you’re weeding through your Monday emails, tweets and facebook posts, take a look at this new infographic from Mashable. An ode to Twitter’s BOOMING and short yet impressive history.

Because of this all occuring within the past few years, it’s really cool to read through this and know (at least on my end) I took part in a heck of a lot of this! Enjoy!
